Christmas

Christmas this year was wonderful! For the first year ever, Lucas 'got' it and was so delighted. His reaction that day was the best present I could have ever gotten.

From waking up to see his presents form Santa, right down to the end of the day, he had a good attitude, thanked us and hugged us all day, trold us he was 'excited' multiple times, and said at bedtime it was a 'great day on christmas today". He announced upon seeing his Mickey Mouse Clubhouse that he 'Was a good boy", obvioulsy, cause Look at all those presents LOL. So very cute.

He got more things than he will ever need, and our house looks like a Toys r Us bomb threw up in it, and we cannot walk two feet without bumping into a toy, but still, awesome.

Not only the presents, but that we are lucky enough to get to spend the day with our families, and that matters more to me than presents. We missed those who were not there, but I still do not think they day could have been too much more perfect.

we are truly blessed : )

Big changes

Our house, aside being a winter wonderland these days, is also in the beginning stages of rearrangement. Just in the living room, we want to bring our computer into the common living area, instead of having it in a corner in the basement. it will get used more, and as Lucas gets older, and begins using it, it needs to be somewhere where we can monitor his usage at all times. So, our bookcase will become an entertainment center, and we will be getting an armoire desk for the computer with the Christmas money I recd from my dad and grandparents on that side, yay!

Bedrooms are changing too. Lucas's toddler bed is now in our room. he sleeps with us anyways, for months, that is why I sleep these days, so we figured he may as well use his own bed, even if it is in our room. At least we get tour bed back.

Lucas's room will hold all the extra toys for awhile, while we get the spare room ready to be Lucas's new "bigger' room as he calls it, he is very excited, cause he wants a baseball room, and we intend to make that for him, but first Larry has to finish off the windows, which had not been mudded for paint since we put them in 4 yrs ago. It will be painted and carpeted. We have enlisted Aunt Vicky form Florida and my mother in law to make an Indians comforter and curtains for him. It will be a cool little boys room.

Then his now room will turn into a 'baby' room for whatever child comes into our lives next. Lucas cannot wait. So besides Christmas being two days away, we are busy busy at our house.

Foster care classes start Jan 6, Larry's birthday

Oh, and Lucas is NOT going to daycare 3 days a week, just TOO MUCH money, so we will keep things as are for as long as possible.

One reason I love my husband

Remind me of this post next time I complain he is driving me crazy : )

I rarely have a pity party about my lack of being able to have a baby very easily, I figure that is not the way to be, and there must be a reason, but occasionally it creeps in, just for a moment.

I got a Christmas card yesterday from my friend Janice in NY, the message was short, but that she had not written in awhile, Angelina, her 19 yr old daughter with a 4 yr old son already, is pregnant again. She did not need to have the first one, let alone a second one. Those kinds of stories really bite you in the butt, ya know? All these people who should not be popping out kids, do so with such ease, and others who have more means to care for the children, have so much trouble. Does not seem fair.

But Larry looked at me and said " I think I KNOW why things are how they are. The world is so screwed up right now, and it seems foolish for people like US to bring another child into this world, that we could obviously take care of, while there are all these other kids out there being born that do not have anyone to take care of them. We are MEANT to take care of one of those children".

It all made sense again, and was heartwarming to hear him say. : ) My pity party was done in a heartbeat, and it reaffirmed my commitment to becoming a foster parent.

Seeing Santa

Lucas was very brave, and faced his fear of Santa. Despite a few protests while standing in line at the mall, when I put him on Santa's lap, there was no crying or screaming, they had a very long conversation and we even got some smiles out of him : )

He asked Santa for "Mickey Mouse and presents" Ha ha He was VERY proud of himself afterwards, and exclaimed that Santa is "a really cool guy"

Merry Christmas!!! Ho-Ho-Ho

Daycare

Lucas is starting to go three times a week in January, instead of the two he goes now, and the prices for the whole school just went up for the New Year, like everything, rates increase.

So it will cost 184.00 additional to what we are already paying for Lucas to go to school three times a week. Jimeny Christmas.

He started in jan of last year, and we got a summarization for tax purposes of what we paid out all year, it was nearly 5000.00.

I mean, Lucas is priceless, he is our son, but gosh darn, that is a lot of money we don't have. Sure we get some help with it or he could not go at all, but not sure how we will swing that, really not sure.

YIKES

Christmas fun!

Friday we are going to Southpark to see Santa. I know Lucas wants to ask for the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and in his own words "go home" LOL right away. Too funny, we shall see how it goes, we have talked about it enough, thats for sure.

Saturday we will go downtown and see the lights at Tower City and Public Square, that will be fun.

We have to bake cookies too for Santa for Christmas Eve and we bought a special "santa and his reindeers" plate to leave the cookies and carrots, in case Rudolph gets hungry too.

Yay! I am still about 4 gift cards away form being done shopping and not quite done wrapping, but I know it will get done in plenty of time

Lucas DOES listen

Amazingly I know he remembers everything ever said to him, despite the blank look of "what are you talking about" everytime we DO speak to him

Last night Lucas was trying to get Larry's attention, and he said "Daddy" rather loudly, because I think Larry was trying to brush his teeth or something

When Larry answered, Lucas replied " I am not mad at you, I just want you to calm down and listen to me ", in a calm, even, matter of fact way.

Using our own words against us, he does it often, but it is in those moments we know he really IS listening to us, even if he pretends he does not hear us : )

It continues

Well, the cough progression has been minimal, for now, so I was worrying for nothing, just that its been a heck of a year, so I just assume the worst anymore.

But last night I noticed a cold sore on Lucas's lip, and one in his cheek inside. So, I was right to assume the worst. Cause he had a lip and a mouth full of sores in Oct, which resulted in a fever, and him missing school and me missing work. Then it proceeded INTO the cough that required two rounds of Zithromax to zap it-AGAIN, for the third time this year. Larry pointed out to me that :at least he has not had an ear infection" since the tubes went in May.

Well goodie

I have a call in to his dr office to see if they want to give him the anti viral meds that helped him last time, before it gets too bad this time.

I just want my baby to be healthy for more than one week at a time : (

Sick-AGAIN

Of course, Lucas started with the cold around Sat into Sunday, and Larry too, Wed I started with it and am now stuffy and miserable.

I am so sick of us being sick, it is just to the point of ridiculous anymore : (

Now if all it is is colds, then I will not complain too much in contrast to the rest of 2008, and Lucas seems to be over the worst, right up til that COUGH that has been the death of me for a better part of this year started yesterday and into last night.

I, of course, am assuming the worst, and anticipating another round of nasty antibiotics to cure the stupid relentless thing, but time will tell. Just the odds are not in our favor this year > It is really frustrating to say the least.

Poor Lucas

He is really afraid of Santa, but I keep telling him Santa will not bring him any presents if he does not sit on his lap, tell him what he wants and take a nice picture when we got to the mall to see him. Mean? A little, but I have faith it will work, then he will get over it, you know, to use against me later when he wants to torture me with all the things that traumatized him as a child.

But we were getting ready to put up the tree the other night, and we were telling him we were going to do it that morning, and he said he did not want to put up the tree. I asked why? becasue he did not want Santa to come to his house LOL! It never occurred to me he was hearing me say Santa would BRING him toys and he does not know "Santa" will come one night while he is sleeping, poor kid thinks if he puts up a tree, Santa will move in with us or something. I laughed and felt a bit bad. I did explain that on christmas eve he will come while Lucas is alseep to leave the toys and he will not see him at all, just at the mall, Santa is too busy to visit any other time : ) He seemed fine then.

Putting up the tree was hilarious too. I will get pics up, they never coincide with my posts, cause I am a bit behind on turning on the computer at home and taking the time to upload, but they will come.

Lucas did not care last year about ornaments, but he was having a grand old time Sat. We would give him ornament after ornament, and he would migrate to one place on the tree, and 15 ornaments would be on two branches next to each other, if they fell off, he patiently put it back on, there was no spreading it out, he liked his spot, and it was quite impressive how he got that many on the tree branch without the tree, falling over to one side, or the branch falling off from too much weight. He is quite methodical when he puts his mind to it : )

I spread them out when he was not looking and he says all the time he loves his Merry Christmas Tree.

An official announcement of sorts

No, I am not pregnant, for the record.

Larry and I have decided to pursue adoption, thru the Berea Family and Childrens Services Foster care/Adoption program.

The reason that I did not run around blurting it to everyone the minute we decided this is well, really only because it mostly only matters to us, at this point in the game, and opinions are like assholes and everybody's got one. I am sure noone would intentionally say negative things to us about this decision, but people do inadvertently say uneducated, stupid things without thinking, and I may hurt the first person who does so about this particular subject. (That was a disclaimer by the way, support and questions encouraged, but if you have nothing positive or constructive to say for any reason, please keep it to yourselves).

There really will not be any questions you can ask, or points that can be made that we have not already thought of, asked ourselves, or researched. This is not a decision that is made on a spur of the moment kinda 'hey-lets- go-foster-tomorrow-for-something-to-do'. Obviously it is years in the making. In a perfect world, or maybe just a perception of what we think would be perfect, I would have been one of the lucky ones who concieved on a dime when we were ready and the timing was 'perfect'. But there are obviously other things going on in the universe besides my issues, (who knew?) lol.

So, we asked ourselves, are we only meant to have one child? In my heart and in my gut, something that is hard to put into words, I just KNOW I am meant to have two kids. Just KNOW, without a doubt in my mind. I try to convince myself one is the number, and it does not compute. Hard to explain.

And not for one second do I take my luck for granted at having Lucas, this has nothing to do with how grateful I am to have my son. He is the most wonderful thing in the world. I have heard this countless times. "Maybe you should just be thankful that you have Lucas". See, those are the stupid, ignorant comments that really get under my skin.

I DO count my blessings, every day and if he is truly the only child I ever have, it will still be the biggest blessing of all, I am blessed, I know this. This has NOTHING to do with not being 'happy with what I have got", and the only people who say this kind of thing, are the ones who never walked 5 feet, never mind a mile, in my shoes. Those people have no idea that the wanting of a second child after getting a miracle baby already, have nothing to do with not being satisfied with the precious gift we have, nothing.

Then there are the wishes we have for our son to HAVE that sibling bond. Playmate, lifelong friend, sometimes foe, but ultimately the one person who is a constant in your life no matter what. I had and have that with my sister, and never once have I thought I wished I was an only child, I was so lucky to have her growing up, and in the end, noone should be without that relationship, in my own opinion. it is so important to us, no matter how the sibling gets there.

And Lucas, he is the smartest 3 yr old I ever met, and I think sometimes we do not give kids enough credit. They are able to take the facts, and have no issues, cause they are not blurred by life, they have no biases, like we learn as we get older, and they understand things better than adults do at times, so the worries I had about how he would take it if god forbid we got a child who did not end up staying with us, I have gotten over it. he will understand, and I have full faith that everyhting happens for a reason, what is meant to be, will be, and it all works out how it is supposed to. We can teach our son that there is more than one way to make a family. Such a wonderful thing for him to be a part of, an adventure for all of us for sure.

So we have decided to take the leap of faith, put it in God's hands, and pray for whatever is meant to be. It is scary, and exciting.

It will mean two mos of training classes 2-4 days a week, a homestudy, etc. But we can be licensed in three mos from starting, so come April, we could possibly get a placement at any time. So WOW

This is a big deal, to us, and eventually for all who share in our lives.

Where is my baby sister?

Lucas asked me out of the blue last night "Where is my baby sister?" Accusingly, like I have been hiding her in the house from him LOL

I just busted out laughing, cause of the way he said it and I told him "I really don't know"

He is now adamant he wants a sister, there is no talking to him about a brother, cause he wants a sister, a GIRL baby he will tell you.

I talked to him the other day about how some kids are born form other mommy's bellies, but they cannot take care of the babies, and then the babies have no mommy or daddy and wouldn't it be really nice of us, if we took one of those babies and gave it a nice house, with Lucas a a big brother, and doggies and toys, he agreed it was sad and that was a good idea, as long as it is a sister. Boy knows what he wants at all times, just like his mommy.

Then in the next breath he said "I want the baby to come out of YOUR tummy".

Well, noone knows if that will happen and the window is quickly shutting on that option.

Hard to explain all that to a 3 yr old who thinks it is as simple as 'getting' that baby sister. Gotta love him. At least he is ready to share mommy, or so he thinks, as opposed to 6 mos ago when he emphatically declared over and over he did not, in any way shape or form, need a bother OR sister : )

Cookie dough day tomorrow

Tomorrow is the day I pick up the fundraiser cookie dough and other treats from Lucas's school. I am excited about the yummy stuff, but I have absolutely no idea how Larry and I are going to get all this frozen stuff to stay good while we take it to work to pass out to those who bought it. Things that make you go HMMMMM

But anyways, yummy stuff coming soon : )

Riley also has a vet appt tomorrow at 10:15 am and I have a haircut appt at 1:30, that is about 2 weeks overdue. And gotta pick up the stuff at Goddard between 3:30 and 5:30. Clean the house up as usual, go to the bank, post office, etc.

Gosh I would love to be bored, just once, for 5 minutes even. I cannot even remember what bored feels like after the last 3 yrs. One day, I want to be bored again, just for a little while. I doubt it will happen anytime soon, but a girl can wish.

Okay, really

If someone had told me 6 mos ago, 2 mos ago, that facebook would even be anything remotely fun, or something I would get into, I would have laughed in their faces.

Not so funny now. I am addicted, I love it, it's like crack. It is just fun, something to do, keep in touch with people I either do not see often or have not seen in years. Gives me something to do when I am bored at work. : ) Makes me feel like I am in touch with the real world again. I had kind of lost myself in that sense over the last 8-10 yrs.

Myspace, meh, no biggie, the layout is a pain, I have no use for it but to keep up with Melissa from Fl, and Alyssa and Kyleigh.

But Facebook is fun, so is blogging. Just thought you might all want to know : )

What?

If Lucas asks you or talks about Mr Gas Card, know that he means the movie Madagascar. How cute is he? : ) We like to move it, move it>

Starting to get into the Christmas spirit

Finally! I was really not feeling it this year at all. It has been a tough, tough year, lots of changes, and lots of illnesses we had to get thru. It is hard to get into thinking about the happy holidays when you are missing a part of your family that had always been there. But we will miss grandpa, and think of him, he never leaves my thoughts, and I am sure I speak for most of my family as well, I am sure he is never far from any of our thoughts and hearts.

But Lucas is starting to get really excited, really trying to grasp the whole thing, and that is awesome. He is so delighted to see the lights appearing on everyone's houses, talking about Santa and elves and especially watching all those Christmas specials, many that I grew up watching, like the Peanuts shows, he LOVES Charlie brown and Snoopy. This has been a lot of fun snuggling on the couch in our jammies, eating popcorn and giggling at the cute shows.

He is looking forward to putting up the tree, which we have scheduled for next weekend, going to see Santa very soon to tell him he wants the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, which is about the ONLY thing that I or nooone was going to get him from Toys R Us this year, darned kid, he is getting everything else on their shelves. I think he will get over it. I hope.

We are planning our now annual trip downtown to see the lights, last year we ate at the Hard Rock Cafe, saw the sights at Tower City, and then walked around Public Square, so we will do that soon.

Yep, definitely starting to get excited about Christmas, that and I am hoping for a less eventful 2009.

What day is this?

Poor Lucas was very confused yesterday : )

This is the first year he is really aware of holidays, celebrations etc, and is very interested in them. So we were telling him yesterday how it was Thanksgiving, and what we do that day and why, and what foods we eat, as I was listing dinner foods, he kept asking "And What else?"

But since it was decent out, Larry also was putting the Christmas lights on the house too, to get that done.

Lucas kept saying, "Its Merry Christmas Lights today?" No, its Turkey day, no Thanksgiving, what day is this mom?" LOL

By the end of the evening Lucas was shaking people's hands and saying Happy Thanksturkey day : ) Close enough.

And I also discovered the only meat Lucas will eat at all, aside from a few things on a bun, it is TURKEY. he was a hog, scarfing it all down before it all touched his plate and asking for more and more. He really is a little turkey!

Happy Thanksgiving

I love Thanksgiving. I love food, so why not? But I like to think of all the things I am grateful for. It is the same thing every year. Thankful for my family first and foremost, and my friends. We are blessed and I try not to let that get too far out of perspective most days, some days are harder than others.

I am most thankful for this little wild and crazy man though : )

And again

So after grandma Jane was conned into taking Lucas BACK to the movies Sat to see BOLT-again, Lucas asked this morning before Grandma Shirley and Grandpa came if they too were taking him to the movies. I told him probably not since he saw BOLT twice already.

When they got to our house he asked them "Are you guys taking me to the movies today?"
grandma said "But Lucas, you already saw BOLT twice now"
He tossed his arms in the air and said with all the Lucas attitude he has
"Well, I want to see a SOMETHIN ELSE" like DUH, she should have guessed that. They cracked up.

Lucas is at Madagascar 2 as we speak, that little cute brat : )

The Movies

I took Lucas to see his first big screen movie at a theater last night! it was mom-son date night, he was so good at school yesterday I told him we could eat at the big Old Mcdonalds in Brecksville, the one with the second floor and chendelier that he likes, very fancy Old Mcdonalds, cause you know, Mcdonalds is dining at its finest, after all

Then it was off to Valley View Cinemark. we got pop and popcorn, and settled in our seats and watched tons of previews and commercials, Lucas now has a list of the next movies he want to see at the movie theater. He sat so good, never asked to get up or go to the bathroom, like he had been doing this his whole life, and I had never taken him, just assuming he may be too young to want to sit thru the movie.

Long story short, he LOVED BOLT so much, that as I got him in the car afterwards, he cried, sad, sad tears, he wanted to see BOLT again, and go back to the movies to see it, he was very emotional about it all evening, and must have said 15,000,000 times how he wanted to go back and see it. He is trying to see how many of his grandmas he can con into getting him back to the theater as soon as possible.
I created a monster, in more ways than one : )

It's always something, isn't it?

Doesn't it seem like there has to be SOME annoying thing that you do not feel like dealing with going on at all times? Like when you solve one minor crisis, another pops up to take its place, like I enjoy these small aggravations.

I love my mini van, it is the best. But Larry was doing oil changes a few weeks ago and always checks tire pressure, etc, one of my tires, that are just over a year old had a small slice in it. So we took it to NTB, since I get my tires rotated there for free since they were bought there, and we had road hazard ins on all the tires, so they say they will get one in, and we went to get it put on the following week. Turns out I never read the fine print, and road hazard does not necessarily mean free of charge, kinda just like insurance, with a deductible. So after paying 50.00 (instead of 100.00 the guy happily informed me ) I got a new tire, yay me.

This week, my ABS light decided to pop on, and it does stay on, probably another sensor so I need to take it to the shop tomorrow morning. Just a few mos ago we had the Airbag sensor fixed, cause the light would randomly come on til it was just on all the time. Bugger.

See, it never ends.

Oh the Possibilities

I am so very giddy with excitement. This week, I will be getting a break, two really and some much needed time to myself. That is a very rare treasure when you have a kid, any mom knows. Not that we do not love the children to death, but how nice it is to get 15 minutes even where we can catch our breath without hearing "mommy, mommy, mommy, and also in my case "honey, honey, honey!

Yes, that is right,Larry is going out of town to help his dad bring the RV from TX. Of course I love him to bits as well, but I beleive any healthy relationshiop needs a break sometimes as well. For me, it will be 4 days where I only have to cater one male, Lucas, and I do not have to be bothered to make much more for dinner than some bagel bites or a bowl of cereal, Lucas does not eat full meals.

Friday I was already planning to go all by myself while Lucas is at school to the IX Chritmas Connection. I go every year, and sometimes alone, and it is wonderful. I can get absorbed in all the displays without worrying who I am going too fast for or slowing down. Without Lucas whining he is bored. Heaven is what that is folks.

Plus, the bonus? Mom and Pappy are taking Lucas overnight Sat. That means FREEDOM for me!!!!! Whoo hoo, the possibilities are endless. And although I should be curling up with some chocolate and a chick flick, my mind immediatley goes to thinking what I can clean really good without being interrupted. I am certainly going to bleach the bathroom from floor to ceiling. May not sound fun to most, but I cannot wait, maybe wrap some Xmas presents, organize something, who knows, just go crazy. All. By. Myself. Ahhh.

And I am so good at multitasking since becoming a mom, I bet I can watch that chick flick while doing something productive, sleep in the King size bed without being kicked in the head, aside form the dogs being in it, and not HAVE to get up at 6am Sunday, but I probably will, just cause I can relish in the QUIET!

Yessir, it is a good week for me!

Friday, November 14, 2008

Glad it is Friday

Cause Thursdays kick my butt : )

To start off my day yesterday, I had an 8;30 dentist appt. They told me to bring Lucas so he could see what getting your teeth cleaned entails, since he will go in Jan. No cavities for me, yay!

Lucas stood next to the chair the whole time I was getting my teeth cleaned, held my hand and told me "It's okay mommy". What a sweetie, I assured him I had doen this many times before and it did not hurt, not to worry.

He got a ride in the chair and a Diego toothbrush, I did not even get a stinkin toothbrush now that I think about it : )

Then it was off to gramma-gramma's, where Lucas immediately told me, Go to work, go to the bank, or the store. basically, get lost, he wanted his favorite plaything gramma all to himself, I know where I am not wanted, so I went to the bank, and home to do some cleaning, came back, and we went to Applebees for lunch.

Grandma has been looking for some sort of tables, or shelf thing for next to her tv for a bit and we went to Levins, and found a gorgeous wood shelf and, at my urging, she actually bought it for herself! I was so proud ;)

Then Lucas was not done with grandma, and wanted no part of me, so I went grocery shopping, the things we do when we get a break form the kids!

then it was back to get him, get the groceries unloaded, put away, play outside a bit, make dinner and put Lucas to bed at 7pm since he was starting to melt down. And I am exhausted today, as usual on a friday

Facebook vs Myspace

Okay, I did it, I caved in totally to what I had been holding on for years NOT to do, I can be so weak sometimes LOL.

I got a Facebook, and it is fun and addicting, just as I knew it would be, part of the reason I resisted so long, but one can only resist for so long, you know? I was not keen on the fact people may be able to *find* me, but oh well, I am reallly not that hard to find, I live in the same city i grew up in, and I am in the phone book after all.

Many people have different opinions on which is better, all around, facebook or Myspace. And since I got Facebook, I figured what was the difference in getting Myspace as well? Plus my SISTER was pressuring me ha ha. So i got one.

I have to say, as I am getting used to both of them, I definitely like Facebook better than Myspace. I will use Myspace sparingly, to keep up with our friend from Fla mostly.

oh boy

Lucas's heartfelt apology

This morning I marched Lucas right into school and up to his teacher, his beloved Miss Teri, who he really does adore, she cannot leave the room without him freaking out.

He said " I'm sorry I bited Gio", without me prompting him, he looked her straight in the eye. I was proud of him. Apologizing is hard to do sometimes, and I am hoping he has learned a lesson.

The teacher and I had a good long talk about what was said to him for biting, she told me what she had said to him, and I told her what I said. She really felt bad that Lucas had been bitten and scratched and that was why he thought it was okay to bite someone, but I assured her it should not happen again (knock on wood, please). She also said there were two little ones right now in her class showing some behavioral issues that is taking up a lot of her time lately and that she wondered if Lucas was not responding to that, by both mimicking some of the behaviors and being a bit jealous that these kids are taking up a lot of Teri's time. Both are good observations, so it was good to talk to her about it. It is hard for any mom to swallow, even the ones with eyes wide open, that their kid, although crazy at times, was biting another kid, on purpose. I take it a bit personally as a reflection of my parenting, rational or not, it is how I feel.

On another positive note, glasses wearing is going so very well. he is not resisting and keeping them on for very long periods of time, he only took two short breaks yesterday, today for school I told him he could take them off for nap, but to try to keep them on as much as he could, and told the teacher of our system, so as long as they are not broken, it will be a good day : )

Monday, November 10, 2008

A little bit of this, a little bit of that

On the positive side, Lucas is not resisting the glasses nearly as much as I thought he would, which means to me, he must notice the difference in sight. I hope so anyways. he is wearing them 80-90% of his waking hours as of day three, so that is cool. It will be interesting to see how he does at school, either he will forget he has them on cause he is so busy there, or he will fight with the teachers about keeping them on, I hope for the first option.

Speaking of school, my son BIT another child last friday. Now, I am not the mom who will ever think her kid can do no wrong, I KNOW him, I will always accuse him first actually, but I was still in shock. Lucas is very subdued at school, shy, and clings to his teachers, he is very much like me as a child (Lord help us). Very quiet at school, complete hellion at home. Which is the way I prefer it.

In the last two weeks, there were two incident reports that came home saying he was bitten and scratched. These are the first incidences we have had since he started school in Jan, this is also his third classroom in that time. So, we figure, whatever, he is three, that is the age, what can we do?

The scratching and biting were done by two different boys, not one of them was the kid Lucas bit. His "friend" as they call all the children at Goddard, simply got in his way in the playground tunnel, and all of a sudden Lucas thought it would be a good idea to bite him to get him to move. he spent time in the office at school, then had to face mommy at home. I gave that boy a Willmarth lecture, listing all of the punishments that would occur if I ever heard of him biting, hitting, scratching, etc a friend or anyone else at school or anywhere. Down to that he will be apologizing to Miss Teri 1st thing Tues morning. When I asked him WHY he did it?

"But, but, but, but MOM!" So and so scratched me and so and so bit me, so I bit him(the child he bit)" Insert shocked look here, first of all cause where does he get the BUTBUTBUT's, too funny, but also that it was the other kids doing these things to him that caused him to think it was alright. Oy!

Then we had a long talk about how much the boys that hurt him had gotten into trouble, and how it was never, ever okay to do that just casue someone did it to you(esp not to a totally different kid, at least bite the one who bit you, geez) but I did not say that, of course, I had good mom face on : )

he was "so sorry mom, and would never do it again" I hope not. I love three yrs old

Doesn't he look WAY TOO CUTE??

Little big man sees the eye doctor

At Lucas's 3 yr well check, they did a vision scan which is the norm these days I guess, and the little scanning machine said his left eye was possibly showing a vision issue, and they reccommended a follow up with an opthamologist. His appt was yesterday.

First, before the appt, let me tell you of our day. It started at 6:30am, of course and since I knew I would be out most of the day, I hurried and did two loads of laundry, vaccuumed, dusted, and cleaned the bathroom. We left at 9:30 to go to the bank and get gas. This week I had 1.40 off my Get-Go card and at .59 a gallon, I was on E and I filled my tank for 10.25. That totally excuses them for all the price gouging they do on their food, because that is just so fun when you get to the pump!

Then it was off to Arby's to take daddy lunch, since I would be on the east side, we were making a visit to both larry's work and mine. We spent an hour at Heilind, then an hour at Progressive. Lucas decided he was pretty much only talking to men at my work, a female coworker would coo over him, and he would say "I'm not talking" then a guy would come over and be like "Hey dude" and Lucas would start bumping fists and talking to them, it was funny.

Off to Beachwood Cleveland Clinic building, luckily we were early, cause noone ever told me that opthamology was in a seperate building on Chargrin, not the family/surgery center on Cedar, but whatever, we made it on time.

Then we waited, the nurse did a quick exam, which Lucas was a very good boy and answered all the questions asked, and named all the pitures with authority, and the doc looked at him, and then they put drops in his eyes to dialate the puils, then we waited again, then Lucas fell out of the exam chair while waiting right onto his face, his lips to be exact, right in front of me, it happened that fast, thank God he is on antibiotics, ewww, gross, lips on the dr office floor !!

So back to the eyes, Lucas needs glasses, for the left eye. It is lazy and a bit far sighted. the chance is good it can correct itself cause he is so young, but the glasses will allow his eyes to correct themselves while seeing symmetrically casue his right eye is doing more work right now. We got the glasses, and will make him wear them starting tomorrow, cause we want to be with him for a few days while he is learning to wear them. i can just imagine all the damage he will do to these things, no matter how flexible they have made them for young kid.

The bad new of this? Lucas is not on my vision coverage til Jan 2009, ugh, he was so young I did not think we would need to worry about it yet, and I just added him to be effective jan 1, but it is not good till Jan 1. Oh well, he has a very cute pair of 250.00 glasses.

pics to come as well of course. We did not get home til 5:30 last night, and I am still exhausted

A father's love

Ah Larry, this proves he would do anything for his son : )

Lucas is having a fundraiser for preschool, selling cookie dough and other related items, so he took the booklet to work, as I did to see if anyone wanted to order, promising he would ask a few people who were interested, could not guarantee anything, I told him that is all you can do, unless it's family, they do not get a choice : )

So what does he do?, pins a sheet of paper to his chest, saying "Please help, fundraiser for a three yr old" and places a picture of Lucas, the saddest looking face on the kid, it was his school pic in the spring that he just did not want to take so he looks like we just sent him to the orphanage in the picture : )

Crack me up, that is so BAD and HILARIOUS! and pretty smart too, cause he has filled the whole sheet up : )

Never order online from Marcos Pizza

Wow, is all I have to say.

Friday(Halloween), I figured pizza would be good, we had some trick or treating company coming, and noone would have time to cook anything, seemed like a good idea. Not so much by the end of the night.

I ordered online at 3:30pm for my delivery to be at 5:15, paid for it and all, count that, it gave them almost two hours to get it together.

I got home at 5:15 and at 5:30 pizza was still not there, we were getting ready to trick or treat and everyone was hungry, I ended up giving Lucas a bowl of cereal cause the poor kid wanted to eat. I called marcos at 5:30. The clueless sounding kid told me how busy they were with it being halloween, I told him I understood that, but I placed the order two hours before and made him find my order so I could confirm they even had it. After conferring with his manager, he reiterated my order to me, said it would be there ASAP.

At 6, we started trick or treating, leaving Larry's sister to pass out candy and wait for the pizza. 6:30 rolls around and still no pizza.

I am starving, and really cranky and ready to have someone's head by then, so I called them back and unleashed the Crazy Rachael on the next poor kid that answered the phone, this was unnacceptable, we are starving, my kid has not had dinner, I want my pizza here NOW. He tries to tell me that everyone in my neighborhood ordered pizza that night. I did not see ONE marcos car go down my street, so do not give me that crap, it is not my problem I placed the order three hours ago, give me a manager. So the 17 yr old sounding girl got on the line and finally admitted to me that the online thing was new to them, and my order never got processed, so she was making it up and I would not be charged as she was crediting my card right then, and I would therefore not be charged, so sorry, blah blah. I told her to give me my fucking pizza. I was done being nice and understanding-it came in 10 minutes, gee, was that so hard???

SO, the pizza came and it was good. Until yesterday when the charge for 31.84 came up on my bank statement. So I called the store and spoke to the other teenage manager, she told me that noone in the stores could access customer's credit info due to privacy laws, all of which I understand working for an insurance company, but the other girl, I felt, had then lied to me Fri night to shut me up, so now it is ON like Donkey Kong LOL. She gave me the ph# to corporate headquaters.

I promptly called and spoke with a woman who had no clue what she was doing and promised to have "Brittany" call me back who could help me. Great. I waited about 3 hours and no phone call, so I called back and left Brittany a vm, not very nicely informing her that if she was going to ignore me I needed the info for the owner of the company cause someone WILL fix this mess. She called me right back then, imagine that.

She looked into it and saw the charge but also had the form that the store had filled out and sent to her to have it credited and it could take 5-7 bus days but it would be corrected. I have no problem with that, but the fact that the moron manager should have told me it would be charged then credited is what pissed me off, and that I had to go thru so many hoops to make sure they were going to credit me. I promised Brittany I would make sure the account was credited, or would call her back personally and I would never again order from Marcos online but by phone either. What a fricken pain in my butt.

Sweet kid

Lucas was SO very good yesterday, with all the dr appointments and running around that went along with it. He got his flu shot and was very brave, I was so proud of him : )

He is like the story about the girl with the curl in the middle of her forehead, when he is good, he is very good, but when he is bad, he is evil.

I like good days, I can really sit back and appreciate the cuteness and innocence that goes along with three.

After my appointment, it was storming out, and I had left our jackets and umbrellas in the van casue it was nice when we went in, and I get thouroughly annoyed with being in the rain, annoyed that I am getting cold and wet, and that my hair will frizz, you know, grown up stuff.

But as we were running to the van, me carrying Lucas, he was giggling and laughing so cute at being in the rain and bouncing up and down as his nutty mom runs throught the parking lot that before I knew it, I was relaxed, and giggling like th 3 yr old right along with him. Sometimes it takes a kid in their natural state to make you realize what is important in life, screw the hair : )

And as we drove home, he asked for Old McDonalds for dinner, it is always Old McDonalds and if you correct him he gets very offended (how cute is that, Old McDonalds? ) So we went to Old McDonalds, and got his chicken nuggets and apple dippers and it was a good night : ) I love that kid.

It was off to the Doctors

Lucas and I both have these awful coughs, the kind that keep you up at night, and you can barely finish a sentence without hacking your guts out. It's a good time.

The doctors call it Sinusitis, Laryngitis, blah blah. We are not asthmatics, it is not in our lungs, it is not allergies, just a chronic annoyance, we feel okay otherwise, actually, except for every muscle hurts from coughing so violently.

Lucas and I are both on Zithromax, or Zpaks, we are trying to zap Lucas's good since this is a chronic thing lately for him, he will do 5 days on, 3 days off, and 5 days back on. For me it is 5 days of the Zpak, and 6 days of Prednisone for the inflammation of the throat and airways. Yay us!

Drama King

Honestly, all three yr olds are probably worthy of Academy Awards. yesterday Lucas decided to be more dramatic than usual, he must have been lacking attention, yeah right.

Numerous times, he "fell" off the couch ( purposely) and fake cried about how he hurt himself. I watched him every time gently roll himself off. And when I asked what hurt and told him he would be okay, the location of the ouchie changed every time.

Larry's Aunt Linda called and he told her his finger hurt when she asked how he was. There was NOTHING wrong with his finger, what a faker!!!

He ate me out of house and home yesterday despite his constant "tummyache", and when it came time for bed, which he did not want to do of course, he was "Sad". I asked, why are you sad Lucas? "Cause I want to" was my only answer.

I usually try to anticipate his next move, I always bring a glass of water into his room at bedtime to eliminate the leaving of the bedroom. But last night, he "could not see" the glass of water even though the nightlight illuminates his room almost better than the overhead light.

And the Oscar goes to.............

Trick or Treat

Well, turns out Lucas could not have cared less about going trick or treating. I hate when he acts all weird like that. He refused to walk, he would only be carried, at first he wanted to just go back home after 2 houses and sit and pass out candy with Aunt Lisa.

A bit later we were able to convince him to go to a few more houses and actually say trick or treat, as long as he was carried, he would absolutely NOT walk, or he was adamant about going right back home. He is a weird kid.

We just did our block on our street, and he said "okay, no more, lets go home". I mean, he has plenty of candy for as much as he went, I just do not understand why he does not want to have any fun. But whatever.

Still haven't gotten to pictures yet, but I will : )

Happy Halloween!!!!

Lucas is very excited for Trick or Treat tonight! He will have his usual entourage and paparazzi, with grandma Jane, Grandma Shirley, and Aunt Lisa coming over this evening.

He went to his school party yesterday for a few hours and had a great time, his teachers told me he was very excited to tell them he was Grady Sizemore : ) I counted 4 Spidermen, a construction worker and a bunch of little princesses when I dropped him off, but I sure did not see any more baseball players, so that is cool.

While Lucas was at school for three hours it was amazing how much I got done with out a 3 yr old. I picked up my grandma, got gas in the car for .79 a gallon(Thank you Get Go card), we went to the post office to mail out some packages, went to the mall, I got a pr of jeans and a new winter coat, Lucas a Christmas sweater, and grandma got the kids some presents, we ate lunch, stopped at the bank and the drug store, and we still 30 min to kill before we picked up Lucas, we were laughing cause every time we looked at the clock, it was still so early.

Then we went back to grandma's where Lucas told me to go to work so he could have his most favorite play toy, gramma gramma, all to himself, so I went grocery shopping LOL!

A good day all in all, if I could unblock my ear and stop coughing, and Lucas's nose would stop being stuffy and icky we might be in business, but it does not look like the creeping crud will be going away anytime soon, flu shots next week, yay!

Sappy little love post

There are few things in life that cause me to get all sweet and sappy. My son is the usual suspect.

I know that having him edge me out of our bed when he climbs in it with us is often uncomfortable, and inconvenient, but there are times when I love it.

There is nothing sweeter than watching your beautiful little baby drift groggily off to sleep, wrapped in your arms. I realize in these times that he is only three now, but look how fast the last three years went, all things considered. There will be a time all too soon, that mommy is no longer the only person in the world who can make it all right. And he will not lay there an cuddle with me.

So as I lay there with him late at night or early in the morning, I try to savor the sweet little angel who rolls over and say sleepily, "I Wuv You MOMMY", and who runs his fingers thru my hair before we drift off. And sometimes he does not punch me in the nose, but purposely throws an arm around my neck to hang on to me while he sleeps, or gently touches my face the way I do to him.

Yes, there is something precious about that time with the little boy I love so much in a way I did not even know existed for another human being til he came along. Darned kid : )

So after the circus

I nearly forgot this part, I think I temporarily blocked it out.

So after the circus and carving pumpkins, the kids were hungry, I was too tired to cook, so I took Alyssa and Lucas to Wendy's before taking Alyssa home. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

We ordered, and the kids went to go find a seat, really Alyssa took him with her to find a seat cause he was whining at me to hold him, he is too heavy and I was too tired, he is exhausting.

I get all the food, ketchup, napkins and walk it very carefully to the table, where I set it down and Alyssa's lemonade topples off the tray, and opens and spills all over both kids. I felt terrible. So there is a huge puddle on the table, Lucas's one pants leg is soaked and he is freaking out. I am trying to get another lemonade and tell the kid at the counter that there is a mess I made. I get the lemonade and the very nice kid sees the harried mom and rushes over to clear the mess. I take everythinfg from the table to another one.

Meanwhile Lucas is screaming "get my pants off, they're wet Ahh", and stripping in the middle of the restaurant, I remember that at the beginning of pottytraining I had a bag with extra pants and go to the van to see if it is still there. Of course it wasn't, so I go back in and put napkins down Lucas' pants, explaining to him that I would take his pants off when we ate and were in the car and beg him to just eat his food. To which he replies "GOOD GOD" and sits down, promptly deciding he had to pee now, so we had to take out the napkins, get new ones so he could go, then we tried to eat dinner. In the time it took to clean the mess and fight with Lucas about his pants, I should have gotten off my lazy butt at home and made chicken nuggets and fries there. That will teach me.

When we got in the car, I took his pants off despite it being 50 degrees out, took Alyssa home and I could not get him in bed fast enough so I could go to bed. Again, good times : )

Circus

Yesterday we went to The Greatest Show On Earth!

4 tickets to circus-80.00

Food at the concession stand-40.00

2 snow cones in light up cups-30.00 (no, that is not a typo)

Parking at Tower City-6.00

Hearing Lucas say, "I had so much fun"-Priceless

Well, not really, it was almost 200.00, but we still had fun : )

It started off as any family outing to an event usually does, with us maneuvering thru thousands of people, taking Lucas to use the bathroom, once we find one, and deciding who wants what to eat, cause these thing always seem to fall at lunch time and we are all starving. We then go to the counter, where I have to put Lucas down, which makes him mad, mom should hold him at all times and daddy is not allowed too, really annoying. So as I am trying to get the order for 4 people right, and pay, I have Lucas hanging off me screaming at me to hold him, and Larry threatening Lucas we are going to just go home. Then Larry claims I was overcharged as I walk away with the food, becasue he cannot ever believe anything costs as much as it does, even though the menu was pretty clear. So he is yelling at me I am not paying attention to the food order, I am yelling that I cannot concentrate on anything with Lucas screaming and hanging off me, and he is saying he is just leaving.

I then go over the items I purchased, and their prices, calm Lucas down, he realizes it is correct as awful as it is, and we find our seats. Everyone happily eats, we apologize to each other, and things go smoothly the rest of the afternoon. Good times, good times, I love a family day out!

We carved our two pumpkins when we got home and pictures will be up sometime this week

Temper tantrums

Lucas had three temper tantrums before 7am this morning. He was in time out twice. OH MY GOD.

The first one was because he asked for a waffle, I always let him put it in the toaster, and push the lever down, well, I got the waffle out of the freezer and forgot to read his mind that HE wanted to get it out of the box in the freezer as well. Ridiuclous, so he tells me to SHUT UP, which always results in an automatic time out, cause that is the one nasty thing we cannot get him to stop saying, and no three yr old should tell anyone to SHUT UP.

After that time out, Daddy asked if he could stop crying and listen to him for a minute, which resulted an a repeated NO, which is something he purposely does to Larry, just to tick him off. So it was back to time out, where he screamed for another 3 minutes.

Then he calmed down, we got the waffle out of the freezer, he put it in the toaster, and I asked how he wanted it, plain or with syrup. Syrup he says. So I make it with syrup, then he screams and cries he wants it no syrup. I am aggravated, it is not even 7am yet, so I throw another waffle in the toaster, then he decides he wants syrup, takes the plate, sits down and eats it as if nothing else ever happened. OH MY GOD.

Days off on Thursdays

My Thursday day off from work is one of my favorite days of the week, and also usually my busiest. Generally they leave me exhausted and ready to go back to work the next day : ) yesterday we did not do too much, it was a calmer Thursday. I started off by doing 4 loads of laundry, vaccuuming and dusting the whole house, and the kitchen floor since Riley thinks he needs to roll in the mulch everytime he goes outside. I folded laundry, went to two stores and the bank, fed Lucas every 5 minutes he decided he needed something else to eat, peanut butter bread is the newest craze, Put Ratatouille in the DVD player 3 times only to have Lucas watch 5 min of it every time, spent an hour on the computer uploading pictures for various reasons, played outside with Lucas and walked him and the dogs around the block, made a 'real' dinner as opposed to the quick crap we eat all the rest of the week after work. Cleaned up the kitchen, bathed Lucas and got him to bed early, only for him to be up and down most of the night, and with him on my pillow every time I tried to move in bed, when I realized I only had 3 inches of space-in a king size bed.

I am glad to be at work today as much as I love my day with my boy : ) cause now I can rest.

We will miss you Maggie

Sad news form a neighbor of mine today. Her beautiful 11 yr old German Shepard Maggie passed away last week. Maggie was the gentlest, sweetest dog I have encountered in a long time. She never needed to be on a leash, she was Omar's friend, they played together every time we walked past the house. She was everyone's friend for that matter, on our street to around the block. The elderly neighbor lady was so distraught telling me, I did not know what else to do except hug her and cry with her : ( Maggie was her only companion, this woman's only daughter lives in another state, her husband is long gone. Maggie took care of her and she took care of Maggie. She was a good dog.

I really am not a fan of people

Anyone who knows me knows I do not like people much-at all. Most people that I run across (not people I know) just get in my way, are stupid and annoy me.

At lunch I went across the street to Kohls, just to browse, I picked up a few items, nothing much, or incredibly necessary at this time, but I had a toy for a friend's son for Christmas, a top for Alyssa for Christmas, a pair of 1.00 halloween socks, for me and a little sweater for Lucas that would be cute for Christmas for him to wear, all were on sale. I got in the shorter line behind two older ladies with 25 min to spare before I needed to be back in my seat at work.

The first lady getting rung up, it was 10 minutes, she needed,t his many boxes, NO, that many boxes, a bag for this, a bag for that, the cashier was singing to the Muzak, it was ridiculous. the next woman's turn comes, and the cashier walks off to ask for more boxes form the other cashier, who was just as slow. This lady had to remind her to not forget her senior discount, as if you coulda missed it. The cashier is singing and dancing to the Muzak.

At that point, I was going to be late, I set down my stuff, uttered a few choice words about how they needed more cashiers, that weren't stupid and how we all did not have all day, some of us worked.

I think I will skip Kohls for awhile, I am still annoyed. Not that annoying me is a hard thing to do, but that was just another reason to hate people in general. : )

Conversations with a three yr old

The age of three is hilarious, and frustrating, but mostly hilarious due to all the crazy things Lucas says. Three is an age where you can begin to reason with kids, therefore threats and bribes are fabulous. It really does not take much sometimes, others, ugh. Conversations with a three year old mostly go like this:
Lucas, please throw your wrapper in the garbage
NO, you do it
No, it is YOUR wrapper, please throw it away, I am not the maid, I am your mother.
You are not the maid?
No, I am your mom
Why?
Cause that is the way it happened Lucas.
Why?
Because I said so, now throw away your wrapper
I don't want to
Boy, if you do not throw that wrapper away now, I am goin got bust your butt and you will not go trick or treating next week.
Okay, okay, I want to go trick or treating, GEEZ, throws arms up and sighs!!! he throws it away though.

OR

Lucas, it is bedtime, and you are going to sleep in your big boy bed tonight, because you are a big boy.
I want to sleep in mommy's bed.
No Lucas, you have your own bed.
I can't, I'm too tired (what?)
You are to tired to sleep in your bed?
yes, and I am too little
Lucas your bed is the perfect size for you
I am so tired, I will just take a little nap on the table
Have you lost your mind, get into bed before you sit in time out.
I'm too sick for time out.
Oh, you are too sick, then I guess we cannot go to the circus in a few days, you may still be too sick.
I'm not sick, I am too big.
Lucas get in your bed and stay there.
Don't close the door, check on me
Of course we will check on you and no we will not shut the door
I want to sleep in mommy's bed

See, hilarious and frustrating, everything is a battle. But where do they come up with these things

Ah kids

My first post

Wow, a BLOG all about ME! I love to talk, to myself or anyone who will listen, so lets see how this goes. I originally just signed up so I did not have to anonymously post responses to a few other blogs I follow, but it seemed like so much fun I wanted to jump on the wagon too.

Not a whole lot going on today, Lucas let us sleep last night, mostly, but he was in our bed, so it could have been a more comfortable night. We got the King size bed when I was pregnant, it was huge then, and the dogs both slept with us comfortably, but that bed is slowly closing in. It could be the fact that I have gained about 20 lbs in the last 4 yrs, or because a 30 lb kid takes up more than half and decides he should sleep in it EVERY night, fo at least some duration if he cannot convince us to just let him get in our bed in the first place, which happens a lot, we are tired, you know?

He ends up sideways, flails and gives someone a black eye almost ever night, edges you right off the bed, it never ceases to amaze me, you put him back in his bed, and you wake up with a fist in your face with no recollection to how he got there, sigh. Oh well. We will sleep again one day, I suppose. I have been saying that for three years...................

But he sure is CUTE!
