My little smart mouth, cannot imagine where he gets it from, can you?

My little boy's mouth is going to get him in MOST of the trouble he will ever be in, but we all knew that.

He actually got in trouble bigtime without his mouth, which is unusual this week, however. He thought it was acceptable to act like he was two and hit grandma Jane and Aunt Faith while they were putting him in a timeout. Imagine my horrible embarassment, he has not hit since he was two himself. If he had just taken his time out for getting into a shoving match with Michaela(Michaela had just done her time out) things would have resumed as normal. But no, he hit them. Oh my lord help me.

So I decided to do something that would get his attention. I took his Star Wars toys away form three days. ALL of them. Put them up on the fridge where he could see them but not get to them, and made sure we were clear on why they were there. he has claimed NEVER to hit again btw.

Day two of toys on the fridge, and he is having a fit over his dragon castle not working properly and the fact he wants to play with it, yet I said it was bedtime. He was flopping around, whining and fussing like a baby. So I threatened to put the dragon castle on top of the fridge as well.

he stops dead in his tracks from his fit, looks me in the eye and says with a nasty tone " IT WON"T FIT"

That was it, I yelled, " I WILL MAKE IT FIT< GET IN BED" LOL

Smart ass

A literal Laugh Out Loud

Well, since I had been worrying and worrying about doing whatever it takes to bacome a member of the parish of St Anthony's mostly to reduce our tuition by 1200.00 a year, we got an envelope in the mail form the church on saturday.

What would you think would be in it, esp if you were being accepted into the parish? A Letter of welcome perhaps? Some inkling that says "on this date we welcome you to our church, blah blah blah" but no. However, I am pretty sure we are members because:

We got an envelope full of money envelopes, all with our names and the dates on them for the next two mos or so. LOL It does say Welcome to our Church ON the money envelopes. It just really cracks me up, ah Catholics. I love it, best thing that happened in awhile, both for the laugh and the relief of the difference of 100.00 per month in tuition.

I went to the informational night Thursday. Got to meet witht the principal, two K teachers and their aide, saw the classrooms, and heard and saw about their curriculum and a typical day in the life of the Kindergarteners. All in all, I liked it really well, what they do, what they have to offer, the classrooms. They will be accepting 33 little ones to K this coming year. I am glad for the smaller classrooms, which is a big draw along with the all day K. I just hope Lucas is one of the 33.

next week on Sunday is the school's Open House, which we will take Lucas to so he can see it. perhaps we will even attend mass, since he will need to learn to sit thru it.

So today I am going to confirm with the recotry we are indeed parishioners (LOLOLOLOL) and call the school office to make sure they put it in his paperwork packet that we are when it comes time to talk about tuition, and find out if Father Dale wants us to finish our sacraments, talk about getting Lucas baptised etc.

Good times!

Mama Llama loves her little Llama Llama

OMG the Llama Llama books are THE CUTEST books EVER, and Lucas is in love with them as much as me. Thank you Auntie for the llama Llama Misses Mama book for Christmas, we read it every night, and we love them so much I had to order the other ones from Amazon and we got them last week. My child has never asked to be read to so much in his little life. And I call him my little llama llama and he calls me his Mama Llama, cause Llama llama LOVES his Mama Llama. Everyone should read these sweet books, who cares if you are an adult and childless, they are awesome. On nights when we have enough time we read all three before bed, if not, he picks one each night.

In other news, everyone has been a little snotty the last couple weeks. Seems everyone is sick everywhere, stupid January, we always get sick in January, and February and on and on til June. Good times. But nothing worse than feeling like a 'kind of' cold all the time. As if thats fun, I would rather just be sick and get it overwith than be in between for days, but thats not how it usually goes, for me anyways. Lucas has been stuffy, hoping it ends before it turns into an issue.

I got some stuff for goody bags today for Lucas's Valentines Day party next month. yes, I know its early, I like to be early, remember? Waiting til last minute things get so busy and then I would be scrambling, I hate that. So I will make those goody bags soon while I wait to see if I get picked to come help with the party this time too. I remembered a lot of moms did not sign up on the day of orientation for stuff and I think I signed up for it all, so we shall see. I guess it wil be ok if I don't get icked, I just love that kind of stuff

Good stuff

Now that last week is over, its onto this week, where the only real dealing with schools will be to go to the Parents Informational meeting Thursday and get Lucas's preschool teacher to fill out that assessment.

Aside from the cold/virus I seem to have come down with, Faith brought Lucas and Michaela out to the east side today where we had lunch at Applebees, and went over to the Optical place to get Michaela some glasses. OMG do they look cute, I can hardly wait the week to see her in them all the time. She was a perfect angel letting the lady try on different frames. Lucas was excited to see his mama, and we had a nice time. yay for extended lunches on a Monday : )

Lucas and Michaela are doing markedly better with the personality clashes, too. That is nice to see, it is not as stressful to have the two of them together these days, knocking on wood, and he is back to referring to her as his 'sister'. Which I take to mean he must like her hahaha.

Stress

I am surprised my head has not exploded yet with the amounts of pounding headaches this kindergarten thing is causing me. And that does not even speak for my poor husband who has anxiety/depression issues to begin with : (

I met with Sister Kathryn the other day, luckily the rectory did not burst into flames, but it was a pretty pointless meeeting in my opinion. Sure, I got the offical paperwork completed to see if I could become a parishioner. But she was about as helpful as a box of rocks, about 1500 yrs old and I left feeling like I didn't really accomplish anything. now I have to wait for Father whateverhisnameis to get back to me basically whenever he feels like it.I feel like God is really having some fun with me on this one. And truth be told, as much as I would like Lucas to have a foundation of some kind of relationship with God, I hate, hate, hate, organized religion for these reasons, and I really ONLY want to be a parishioner to save 1200.00 a year in tuition. I am wondering if I have the energy or the Give a Damn to jump thru all their hoops. That sounds terrible, doesn't it? Oh well, I am frustrated.

I turned in his registration packet with the non refundable registration fee the other day. I was worried about not getting it in in enough time for him to get a spot. Then yesterday Mrs Gatins, Lucas's preschool teacher, expressed her concerns about ther 'reservations about kids that are such young 5's going to kingergarten, fine motor skills not being as refined as an older child, and wanting him to succeed" while I was in the car pool line picking Lucas up from school, and that she wants to talk about it. So as if I were not in enough sress, lets add the guilt of her not thinking he should even go to that, shall we?

I always knew his birthdate and age could be a factor, but there are plenty of kids who are just 5 or turn 5 before Sept 30th that go on and do fine. The guilt part is that Lucas HAS to go to Kindergarten. we do not have the option of sending him back to preschool like this year, this was only possible due to Faith being here, and she will be gone again come Oct. I hate that money, and work come in between what I would rather have for my son and what the reality is, I really do. I also think Lucas is going to ready and do fine in Kindergarten this year. I think he needs the all day structure, and may get too restless and bored if kept back one more year. I also know one more year back would not hurt him. We simply do not have that option. period. it sucks . In general. But whatever.

He will have testing for K readiness in March, and as long as he passes he is going, and I see no reason why he would not pass. If for some reason the assessors express concern, we will have to do some major overhaul to our entire life to figure something out. As parents, all we want is for our child to succeed, just like anyone, and will do whatever it takes. I just wish the decision did not have to be so difficult

"Oh Holy God" as Lucas and Michaela would say

School. Kindergarten. Who knew?

I had completely not realized prior to having Lucas, all the little things I never thought about before having a child, that would make the biggest impacts and be such tough decisions. You expect the stuff about having a newborn, being pregnant, dr visits, choosing to immunize and the list goes on and on. but there are things such as daycare, preschool and elementary school, I imagined would be our easiest decisions, but they turn out to be our hardest, among other things.

When Lucas was born over 4 yrs ago, to me it was a given he would go to Parma City Schools. I went there and so did my sister, and we came out 'ok'. Not the best school district ever, but far from the worst. Plus, we really cannot afford to live in most of the other Cleveland suburbs, so I took it for granted.

plus I think I listened to the horror stories my family likes to tell about their days at Catholic schools, back in the day. Funny stories, but they made me very leary to think positively of any other school than a public one. I never liked the idea of uniforms. Not big on organized religion in general. Mostly because I feel it is just a money hungry thing, and was not necessary to maintian a good relationship with God.

As time goes on, you realize how different a situation is when its your kid. The schools are a mess, Parma City, that is. budget cuts, levies failing in a poorer by the second city with a high foreclosure rate in the suburb of Cleveland where the unemployment rates are alarming. The schools suck. They are threatening to take away even more than they have, which seems inconcievable, but I know that is the dire straits the city is in. its unfortunate, joke about Parma all you want, but its a nice little city most of the time. Right til it comes time to decide where you are going to send your own kid to school.

My views have changed almost a 360 in the last year, as decisions about preschool, daycare and the state of our school district. I all of a sudden see the positives of a private school. uniforms do not seem that bad, and I would like for my son to have some background of religion, and a relationship with God. Plus the opportunities such as extra curricular activities and smaller classes and a better education suddenly make it a no brainer. Couple that with the cost of before and after care in the crappy public school system and we come to this: Private Catholic school.

We have quite a few church/schools in our immediate area, but the only school I see myself sending him to is St Anthony. Several reasons. I have quite a soft spot for my old neighborhood where I spent my chilhood. it is the better part of Parma, and one day I would like to live up there again. I am familiar with the church, I spent 7 yrs running their child care nursery as a pre teen and teenager. My sister and I know lots of people we ended up going to high school with that went to St Anthony, and not a single one of them had a bad thing to say, in fact, they loved it. And, Emma and Carter are both going to go there this fall, extra benefit for the boy to start with his two best friends. Plus their kindergarten is all day, very important to me.

'Oh Holy God" now comes into play, literally and figuratively. It is time to register for Kindergarten. I picked up the registration packet this morning and want to get it back ASAP to guarantee a spot for him. I am now running into the snag of the fact that 1) we are not parishioners, so tuition is more expensive and 2) my son is not baptised. I did call the school about 6 mos ago, and was told that should not be a problem, today, I was told I needed to speak to the Pastor, while I am discussing my wish to be a parishioner. All the while hoping that I can get this paperwork in SOON to get him a spot. I am willing to get him baptised. I did not want to do it as a baby for him, just to do it like so many people do. I assumed back then we would let him choose later if and when he wanted to be any kind of religious. I do want him to get some sort of background and now am all kinds of ok with doing all the ceremonious religious stuff I used to be opposed to. Views on things change when you have kids, plus I just want him in. Sounds kinda wrong, but, life is not black and white. lets just hope the pastor agrees to all this and we will work on it all. There really is no other option in my mind. Parma City schools is not an option. If I wanted him in half day kindergarten, i could just send him back to preschool again next fall. 1/2 day K is pointless, it will not beneift him and I know he will be ready in the fall.

So, lets hope the church does not burst into flames as the Balaga family pledges our only child and ourselves to the church this week. hahahahaha. its kind of funny, if you have our sick sense of humor.

Oh HOLY GOD

It is a New year!

I finally, finally got the holiday pics uploaded to Photobucket and some to Facebook as well. that only took forever. Stupid computers. But they are now available for your viewing pleasure.

Saturday we took Lucas and Michaela to Disney on ice. believe it or not, it was Lucas's first time there. he loved it, I could tell. Michaela was very outwardly excited and clapped and danced and waved. She especially loved the Mickey Mouse crew and the Princesses, of course.

it occurred to me while I was humming the familiar songs and seeing the characters that these kids have NO clue who half these Disney characters are. They have not seen Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Mulan. I am very familiar with them from Ashley and Alyssa loving all these movies. Its may be time to pay a visit to the Disney vault to show them these classics!

Lucas had never seen ice skating and was very impressed. I realized we should get him to the ice rink and see what he can do, kids are so naturally good at that kind of stuff, it would be fun.

Scratch that

Half the pics in Photobucket I thought I uploaded are not there. I will have to get to those later this week, how annoying

I tried to get Facebook to upload pics multiple times this weekend, but it never worked and I got frustrated, but they are in Photobucket finally! Enjoy!
