Dr visit #2 for Lucas

Since his cough got progressively worse since Thursday, Larry took Lucas back in this morning, and I got to be on speakerphone. They did a chest xray straight off the bat.

The xray shows he has some irritation or something in his right lung but it is believed to be viral , there was talk of his reactive airway disorder, we have been calling it that with his doc since last year, where a virus gets out of control with his coughing and the bronchi become so irritated all he can do is cough : (

his ear cleared up, that is great news! So we will hold off on the antibiotics for now, and do an albuterol treatment every 6 hours for 24 hours, then 3 times a day for 3 days and then 2 times a day for two days, and follow up with Dr Wilson next week. I will call on monday to make that appt and ask if he should be going to school next week, I forgot to ask that.

If he gets a fever I am to bring him straight back, but no swimming party today : ( We will miss Emma's bday party, and we are sad, but next week is Danielle's and we will see all his little friends again then and it is not a swim party, so hopefully we can do that. Her concern is him infecting anyone else and getting another infection in his ear. My ear still really hurts and I do not feel well since I cannot get any rest, so I have no business being in the pool either. : (

it is all such a bummer! I will be going back to Rite Aid, out of necessity, Larry does not have my medical card and all our info is in their computer, lets see how that works out today

This week's adventures

So, along with us being sick (I feel a tad better today, sinus, ear and upper respiratory infection is being treated finally) there is always something else that has gone on. I have not been too sick this week to pitch a fit when I see necessary, especially when it comes to messing with my baby boy. I am capable of really anything LOL.

Sunday morning, when Lucas woke up miserable and I knew what road we were heading down with him, we made the decision to take him to the pediatric ER at Hillcrest. My reasons, I knew he would get worse based on his history and wanted to cut a day off of his suffering, plus I suspected an ear infection. Also, I knew if we went to a nurse practitioner who holds Sunday appts, they would refuse to give me anything except Amoxcycillin which is documented as not working for him. My mistake.

When we got there, a physician's asst looked over his record, and I saw she could see his history, and we talked about how Lucas's issues do not just go away, that he has tubes, etc. She was nice, took her time looking him over, chatting with him, and told us that she could see his ear was infected, and she would go talk to the dr. I saw her go into a room across the hall, talk to the sleeping dr, and he got out of bed, where he was obviously napping. Why? Not sure, since there was a full ER full of vomiting kids that needed care in my opinion.

He came in bleary eyed, the oldes dude I ever saw in scrubs, musta been 500 yrs old, could not even walk upright. he barely glanced at Lucas, did not look at his chart, and told me he did not have an ear infection, it was a virus, if he gets worse follow up with his dr ( Really? No shit sherlock), and as I open my mouth to address my concerns, he interrupts me to announce he will go get his discharge paperwork ready. Fuck that, I was not waiting for any paper to discharge the kid I gave birth to from anything, we walked straight out, and sanitised as soon as we got home.

needless to say I was furious. So I took Tues off to take him to his ped. Who says he has an infected left ear and the goop in that tube had it almost blocked. Now I am livid, not that I had to take off work to take my baby to the dr, not that he HAD the infection, but that that stupid asshole at Hillcrest just sent him home, I mean, he has documented issues esp with his ears and tubes, adn if something happens to my baby's ears because of waiting two more days for treatment, I will hunt him down myself in person.

He is still coughing pretty badly, but we wil l wait and see how that goes, I see another round of zithromax coming right up though.

So when I finally got enough of a voice back yesterday, i called the hospital and got a hold of the woman who handles complaints. I told her the whole story and she was very nice and sympathetic. I advised her I would be paying nothing if I get a bill for that visit and requested the director to call me back once she addresses this with him. i felt better then.

Then there was Rite Aid trying to get Lucas's script. I had his dr e script it to the Rite Aid at State and Snow, cause the one at Ridge and Pearl almost never has what we need in stock. I will also never og there again. grandma can attest to what a mess they are.

After we left the dr office, the script was sent already at 11:15 am, we went to eat at McDonalds. excuse me, Old Mcdonalds, and it was 12:15 by the time we went to pick up the drugs. We waited in the drive thru for about ten minutes, pressing the call button, noone came, could not see anyone back there. So I parked, and left Lucas in the car with Grandma, ran in and discovered there were three people working back in the pharmacy, imagine that. So I told the one woman who I was, and she said they would fill Lucas's next. I figured they had the thing for an hour but whatever, as long as they did it now, it would be fine. meanwhile, there are two guys who obviously had nothign better to do but wait for their meds, who were there before me, sitting and talking to each other happily. They must not have been sick, or employed I decided.

15 min go by, and a young girl had been standing at the counter now for about 5 min, and one woman back there, who I had an argument with last year, was arguing with a customer at her window, then with a customer on the phone, before giving the phone to the pharmacist and storning out of the office crying and screaming on her way into the bathroom how she wished she could retire today. that leaves two incompetent people in the back now.

At that point I decided I better get Lucas and grandma out of the car. it was going to be awhile apparantly. I filled grandma in on the crazies, and the young girl was still unacknowledged at the counter about 15 min by now. She finally said to the woman ignoring her "Can someone help me please" the woman annoyedly asked what her name was and searched almost 10 min for her script, in between ringing up other people's orders, telling them she could not ring anything else up cause they were too busy, even though they were already ringing up their scripts. Wow. They tell this young girl in the same breath that they do not have the script, oh yes they do, but they do not have enough in stock, she would need to come back the next day for the rest. nice.

So I asked if his was done yet, and she told me all they had to do was mix it. 5 more minutes and we finally paid the 5 whopping dollars for his script, as I stood there holding my sick son while I was sick as well. 40 minutes later we were on our way home.

So after calling Hillcrest, I called the pharmacy manager to describe his most ridiculous 3 ringed circus I ever saw in my life, so that he knew what was going on. he was not surprised, said he is hearing this story over and over agian, upper management was aware and he was trying ot clean his place out. he sounded very tired and was very apologetic.

Adventures are plenty in our world. that is the latest.

Sick update

I got Lucas squared away yesterday at the dr. He has goop sitting in his tube in the left ear and an infection, as well as his usual upper respiratory issues that never go away once he gets them. He is on another round of Zithromax since it works well for him and ear drops. he will start feeling better quickly. i hope.

As for me, I am on day three of aches, fever and sore throat and as an added bonus, have no voice, which I am sure pleases at least some people : )

So since my throat and chest hurt so badly, I will take myself to the dr tomorrow. I, like a dummy, trudged into work thru all the snow and am now wishing I hadn't for the fact it will take me years to get home, more than likely. UGH

We were due

For another round of sickness that is. Last cold that miraculously went away for Lucas and turned into a sinus infection for me was beginning of Dec.

So, since we average being sick once every 6 weeks during fall, winter, and spring these days, I knew it was coming.

it started of course, with Lucas's Pink Eye bout last weekend, which I was told almost always go hand in hand with a cold or infection fo some sort, plus he was laready sniffly and had a small cough when the PE even started. The eye drops worked well but as the week went on, the kids nose and cough got worse and worse, to the point that I cannot get him to drain, despite all the usuals that dr's tell you over and over again. And he started running a low grade fever too.

Humidier, check. Vicks, check. Saline nose drops, check. Vapor bath bubbles with menthol, check, motrin and tylenol alternating, check. I even gave him Triaminic cold and cough, even though he is not quite 4, the recommended age on the package, he is 3 1/2 people, for gods sake, he is miserable.

So although he slept a bit better last night, and seems a LITTLE bit better all around, there is the cough,. The dreaded Lucas cough, that never goes away even when all the other symptoms do, and we are left with the stupid cough that takes 1-2 rounds of Zithromax to get gone. Every Single Time in the last year.

we have a Dr appt with his dr tomorrow, cause other docs want to let it go on and on cause they are all antibiotic phobic, but Dr Wilson knows she has to do what it takes.

So now I have a burning throat and ache from head to toe. gross, and unnecessary for me to get every single thing Lucas gets in my opinion. I do not remember my parents catching many things form us as children, what is up with that? I take vitamins, if Lucas sleeps with me I sleep all night, so what the heck?

I am sure I will see my dr next week for a sinus infection, cause 9 out of 10 of my colds end that way cause of my stupid ears and sinuses having no proper drainage.

Yay us

Okay, new plan

So, Larry and I have decided to put off the 2nd kid thing indefinitely right now. Turns out we are not ready. I was in a bit of denial, assuming that there were some rules as to when the 2nd kid either needed to be born by or adopted by or something terrible would happen. If it never happens, it is not the end of the world. if Lucas is 5 before it happens, not the end either.

And I feel relived and at peace with this decision. We have a lot going on, and want to give Lucas all the things we can and the best of us, and when there is no choice but for us to work, work, work, and we don't get a lot of free time, not sure if we would be able to swing it. financially, emotionally.

And if there are any doubts, then I am glad we did not waste anyones time starting something we cannot finish.

I guess you live and learn, but we made the right decision ofr OUR family at this time.

So, that is our latest news, of course, it is always subject to change.

The latest and greatest

Lucas officially loves his room, right down to even sleeping in his big boy bed a little bit which is better than before, sad as that is. : )

His pinkeye has cleared nicely with the eye drops, which is great, he is however, a bit stuffy, and coughing some as well, so I am keeping an eye on that, I hate when he coughs, I see visions of sleepless nights, trips to doctors and lots of harsh antibiotics : ( Hopefully not, but he escaped the last cold unscathed, and it may be too much to ask he get over this one too. But fingers crossed.

Yesterday me and Grandma took him to see the movie Hotel with Dogs. it was very cute, and I cried thru the whole thing. Of course I knew it would end happy, but I am such a sucker for kids and dogs, I then wanted to run out to the nearest animal shelter, grab every dog, and bring it home and kiss and hug it LOL. Such an emotional girl, but Lucas loves the 'movie FEATER", always emphasis on the Feater part, so cute.

Love him.

Pink Eye, amongst other things

My poor Lucas has Pink Eye. Of course, he has not been sick in a month, so, he was due

But his pediatrician was the doc on call yesterday morning and called him in some eye drops, they look much better today.

his new room is basically done and he even spent half the night in his new big boy bed, pics in photobucket of the new room. it came out great.

We got the poop train moving again this weekend too,( that is pooping on the potty) we had to step up the bribing. he won himself two new Star Wars blasters for going this weekend like a big boy, he loves those things so much he sleeps with them lol

Now I have to hope he can go to school tomorrow since he is not SUPPOSED to be contagious anymore.....

"Ice Skating", but not really

We took Lucas sled riding yesterday for his first time. But he calls it Ice Skating, so we won't argue.

he had so much fun, all bundled up, He coulda done it all day, but mommy lasted an hour. I thought that was good. Once he went down the first time with me, he wanted no part of riding with someone, he wanted his own sled and to go fast again and again and again.

Every muscle in my body hurts today, but he wants to go "Ice Skating" again, and cried when we left.

It was a good time and pictures will come soon

Such a BOY

So I was told by Lucas's friend carter's mom via Facebook that my son, her son, and another boy like to have peeing contests at the bathrooms in school, LMAO. I was then informed by male coworkers that all boys do that and it will not end anytime soon.

Lucas does not tell me that stuff, Carter told his mom, cause he is pretty proud of himself, oh these crazy kids. : ) I totally cracked up.

I take it back

Anything I have said about three yrs old NOT being fun, I take it back.

It has been a great age lately, everything Lucas says is hilarious. Too many things to think of at the moment but here are a few.

This was funny, not so charming, but funny, just don't tell him it was : ) the other day Lucas was coming in the back door behind Omar, and in front of my grandma, told Omar to "Come on DUMBASS" Lovely, adorable, funny though.

His newest obsession is Star Wars, animated, or not, old movies or newer ones, does not matter. He runs around with his light saber watching it, telling daddy he has to come play. Daddy is Obi Kenobi (hee hee) and he is Mr Skywalker ( not sure why he thinks to call him MR but it is funny) and he likes to say ROGER ROGER a lot like the droid guys in the Clone Wars. So cute.

Last night was Larry's small bday party, we went to dinner with my in laws then Lucas knew there was a cake at home. He told me when we got home that we needed to hurry up, put candles in the cake, sing happy birthday so HE can eat the cake.

And when his grandma Shirley asked for a kiss and a hug last night he told her " Nope, not you, I will give you a kiss and hug next week"

Also earlier that evening she asked him if she could hold him and he told her "Not right now, I have a headache" LMAO. She told him what goes around comes around and she will laugh one day when his wife tells HIM that : )

he is the best : )

What a great weekend!

Even though it was 20 hours in a car with a three yr old and only 2 days jam packed, it was an amazing trip to visit Faith , Joe and princess Michaela. I cannot even believe how much the baby has changed in two mos, she is quite a sweet little girl, with a soft little voice. And she remembered us, her and Lucas had a great time playing together, absolutely precious.

She let Auntie rachael fix her hair even though she hates that lol and she even said "Rachael" which made my whole month. Lucas asked yesterday morning if we could go back to Aunt faith's : ( he was not ready to go.

We went to the Edventure Kids museum, and the behind the scenes tour of the zoo Joe arranged for us was so totally cool. Up close with Lions, hyenas, and even right into the exhibit to pet koalas, it does not get much cooler than that, it was so much fun.

Baby Morgan is a mover and a shaker, kicking her mom's butt : 0 We got to feel her kick too, so that was sweet. Cannot wait to meet her.

we miss you guys, but it was so good to see you!
