The last few months have certainly gotten away from me, thats for sure. I doubt at this point anyone is reading this, but I will update anyways.
Lucas graduated kindergarten May 25, they had an adorable singing montage with all the kids, they got their diplomas etc.
Lucas has been mostly lazy since summer started, hanging out with Alyssa most days playing Wii, playing outside, watching movies, going to bed late and sleeping in (for him).
He has also done swimming lessons, tball, had his kid bday party at the Jumpyard, played with some of his school friends, gone to Kiddie Park, Swings n Things, playgrounds, campgrounds, and lots of swimming.
We spent way too much time in my opinion working on his summer homework, its best not to get me started, but long story short, he has not really learned these math facts yet, but had to do 23 practice tests by Aug 1, and they were SUPPOSED to be 2 minutes or less. We never got close to 2 minutes, it was ridiculous and mostly just frustrating for him and I. he still has two little book report like things to do, but those will be easy. he struggles with math, as I do, but reading has come very naturally for him.
The day after school Lucas had his endoscopy, which did show he had some ulceric lesions at the top of the small intestine that were healing at that point. he got tested for all kinds of bacteria as the source but all tests were negative. he is on his third month of 30 mg Prevacid, doing better, not completely better, but much better. They are only wanting him on the Prevacid til the end of this mont, so we shall see. I am still just hoping to get him to 40 lbs by the end of the year, I don't truly think he is eating any more since getting diagnosed.
He also had all the rest of his teeth work done, two crowns, a filling and a spacer where the tooth was pulled later, he makes sure to brush well so he does not have to get anymore cavities filled. My empty wallet thanks him.
He now has his first loose tooth that is hanging there by a thread but he will not let me pull it. The grown up tooth is almost all the way in behind it, I think he is trying to keep both teeth.
I sure have enjoyed my break of not having to pack lunches, do homework, or get him out of the house most mornings and what I consider sleeping in. I have gotten quite spoiled. But in 2 weeks time it will be time for school again where my big boy will be in the first grade. I can hardly believe it! I have all the school supplies ready, we have Curriculum night on the 18th and school starts the 22nd. Not to mention I have to keep all the stuff straight I have volunteered for this year. I have already helped at the Used Uniform Sale and I signed myself up for all kinds of fun and games.
Soon after that bowling season will begin and it will go just that fast.
In other news, I think I need to go back to school. I never enjoyed school, but I think I need other options. With Larry's hours being cut so badly and struggling so hard this past year, I feel like a major change needs to go on somewhere, things cannot stay the way they are. Couple that with the fact that I am unhappy currently at work, it just may be enough to light a fire under my lazy butt. I will keep you posted.

Not because nothing is going on.......
But because so much is going on, thats probably the biggest reason for no new updates in awhile. That and I get lazy about it when I am stressed out and stretched thin.
First off, we are getting ready to round out the end of the school year here in a few short weeks. Spring Break was a whirlwind, lots going on, including the fact that Lucas's dental work did NOT get done once again. This time its cause he has a nasty cough going on, along with a cold, and they cannot work on him like that. he is back on 3x a day breathing treatments til the cough goes away, which I know means NEVER. It NEVER goes away. I will deal with that in a few weeks, though.
Lucas saw the pediactric gatroenterologist a few weeks ago, since we cannot put a finger on this throat/tummy pain he has complained of for a year now. I am finally tried of dealing with it to no avail and since the reflux meds did not seem to help, its on to the next step. The dr had me take him off the Prevacid, as it was not helping, and the meds come with their own list of possible issues, and she feels it may be more intestinal so we are upping his Miralax for now. He had a ton of blood taken, which I have not called on yet, since he is scheduled to have an Endoscopy on May 26. Happy first day of Summer Break kid, lets have a camera shoved down your throat! but I really want to see what is going on and if there is an issue, fix it, if not, I guess I better get the kid to a head dr next. She also wanted him to get tested for lactose intolerance and fructose intolerance, but after finding out they are two seperate procedures, have crazy specific rules and are going to cause way more stress than an endoscopy, I decided not to do those for now. I KNOW he is lactose intolerant without a test and the kid has been thru enough. I think we can get what we need from the blood tests and the endoscopy. Yikes!
Next up is Omar. Over the last year I have grown increasingly worried about him. he gained 20 lbs over the last year and its his incessant drinking of water to the point where all three water dishes are empty every 5 minutes that got me to take him to the vet. He has all the symptoms of Cushings disease, in which there are 2 forms, but can be difficult to diagnose. However, after all kinds of blood work and several different kinds of urine tests, it is not Cushings after all. His kidneys are definitely not functioning properly and he is excreting way too much protein. he was put on a human medication that I cannot remember the name of, to help his kidneys function properly. I spoke with Dr Hart this morning after getting the results of the further testing we were doing on his urine and she said it is up to us if we want to take him to a specialist where he would undoubtedly repeat bloodwork and probably get a doggy MRI for millions of dollars. Its not that we have any extra money to spend but for our Omar we would. But she said that only half of dogs who get the further testing get a conclusive diganosis and the end treatment would probably be the same as we are doing now. So we agreed we would wait a couple more weeks, have another urine test done to check the protein level and if its normal, we know the meds are working properly. She said that based on the rest of his bloodwork, symptoms and general appearance( she has been his vet since he was a baby) that she does not think he is really very ill, or cancerous and that this is just something needing to be maintained for the rest of his life. So we will see how he does in a few more weeks and what his protein level is. His cholesterol is also elevated, which is not uncommon when there is a kidney malfunction, so the risk for blood clots is more prominent, so he will now also be taking a baby aspirin. Hopefully that is all that will be needed. We love our puppies like we love our kid, so having anythign wrong with any of them totally stresses me out. Couple that with Lucas's issues, and I am a mess.
But Lucas has an outing for school to Kiddie Park in a coulle weeks I am looking forward to, as well as a little program on his last day of school that will be adorable for sure. Not looking forward to worrying about childcare for the summer, but ready to not worry about homework and packing lunches for a few mos : )

More dr appointments
Finally after Lucas got well I sat down with the pediatrician to discuss the fact that Lucas's constant complaining of throat and tummy pain had been going on for a year now. It started off random and intermittent, then has progressively gotten to be constant. 4 mos ago we put him back on prevacid and that has not made a difference. We upped his dosage of it last week, but its hard to tell if something like that works while he is in the middle of a stomach virus, so it is past due to go back to the pediatric gastroenterologist. i used to frequent their office when Lucas was a baby but have not been down there since he turned 1.
I really just want to know WHAT, if anything is bugging my baby anymore, and I know that bloodwork and probably an endoscopy is imminent, but it must be done. I am glad to have the appt for tomorrow at 11:20 still a lot nervous about the outcome, so we will see how it goes.

It's gotta get better
It just has to. And I think it is. But gosh what a long haul for my little baby boy. Nothing like a knock down drag out stomach bug to take out an active 5 yr old for 6 days. yeesh. It almost came down to going to get IV fluids, but the mention of that made him miraculously want to drink and drink and drink his Gatorade, thank goodness. Lets hope that is the last of that nasty nonsense for a bit. He has missed 4 days of school. he has 3 full days and a half day next week and thats it, Spring Break. his Kindergarten days are numbered, I do not want him to miss anymore. Not to mention the mounds of of make up work and homework that come with missed days of school. Which really means for ME. I would so never dream of homeschooling, omg. That would be pure torture for him and I. That is all I know : ) So I am exhausted. My neck is back out of whack and I will be needing a muscle relaxer for that soon. As lovely as it sounds, esp after this week, they really make me feel icky, I only take one as a last resort. And my neck only goes out these days from extreme stress. Sunday night I also had hives and my face is extra broken out. So, it does have to end. Focusing on more nice weather days ahead and pining for June, when I will get to see my sister and those little girlies again. I am trying to be glad for my mom and John that they are going this week, but I have not been successful : ( I am too jealous from missing them so much.SIGH

And a week later......
Lucas's tooth that needed to be extracted started to abscess last week (of course) which resulted in us having to get it out a week sooner. the day of the procedure Lucas had to wait til 10am and could not eat beforehand, so by the time we got there, we were a bundle of nerves but Lucas just was anxious to be done so he could eat and so he could take his tooth home for the tooth fairy : ) Kids are fearless, I love that.
He was out for all of 30 seconds, has a little novocaine and nitrous, and was good to go. the only thing that annyed him was the novocaine then once it wore off, he was 100 percent back to Lucas again, no stopping him. He goes in April over spring break to have the cavity work done and the spacer put in. The sapcer so his molars do not try to move forward since it will be about 5 more years til that big tooth comes in that spot and the crowns because he really has to have that much gouged out of those teeth and a crown will prevent the teeth from moving all around and hopefully we can prevent further issues. he will not lose molars til he is about 12 uyrs old, he has a long way to go.I never needed braces and either did Larry, I would love to keep it that way for Lucas as well, cause those also cost a pretty penny. Emma's tooth needed a crown too, and she has had no further issues either. crossing my fingers for Lucas.

I am amazed at how quick the school year has gone by, despite it being another full time job for me most times. He has 3 days off this week due to his teachers are conducting the Kindergarten testing for next years kids, then he has about 3 weeks of school, then Spring break, then 3 weeks of school and he is out May 25. crazy how quick that went. The Kinders get out early, the rest of the school not til June 3rd. Because having to worry about 1 and a half week more of a babysitter is much more convenient for the parents I guess. Whatever. I am sad to see Kindergarten go, nonetheless : (
I just adore the school, so happy that is where we chose to send Lucas. His teacher is the most awesome teacher I have ever known, and I will snincerely miss her being his teacher next year. I have met so many great moms and all the kids, and I love how many parent/family involvement things they have, all the volunteer opportunities. I was born to be a PTU mom, and if I did not work, I would totally be on the board. I love being involved, and in the know, and to contribute to Lucas's school and to have him know how much I care about him to want to be involved in all of it.
And last but not least! It is that time of year again!!!! Time to collect money and spare change for the Q104 Pledge for Pets Marathon! Lucas and I will be collecting Kitty Kash and Doggy Dollars now til May 11th. And NOOOOOOO, I will NOT be visiting the APL this year, no 4th dog for us! our house is full. I love my puppy boys to death, but our house is not big enough for one more creature : )
So please consider helping out a great cause. We have so much fun doing it and love to be able to help the animals, who cannot help themselves!!!!

My child's poor teeth
I certainly did not take great care of my teeth as a child, nor did I see a dentist every 6 mos the way my kid does, yet I never had a cavitiy til I was 19 or 20 yrs old, and my poor kid has 3 and a dead tooth : ( at 5 yrs old : (
he had started complaining about one of his teeth the last few mos and when I took him to our dentist a few weeks ago, they confirmed what they believed to be 3 cavities altogether but did not take Xrays since he felt more comfortable sending Lucas ot a Pediatric dentist since it would require more than surface work and they would do their own xrays anyways.
I took him this TH to Dr Coloma, the pediatric dentist, liked her and the office real well, but she showed me the Xrays after they escorted Lucas out of the room and he not only has three cavities (one is not big enough to treat right now, just keep an eye on) and one tooth dead, and that is what causes the pain. It could absess so I need to keep an eye on it, but it needs to be extracted. She wants him to see an oral surgeon for that one, then come back and get the other two teeth worked on once that heals, since the other cavities are so in between the teeth and large, and molars, he will need crown, or caps, whatever you want to call them. UGH.
His appt to actually have the tooth pulled is March 24 at 8:20am. They said they would gauge that morning if they would give general anesthesia or just some nitrous. Lucas is extremely well behaved and compliant for any medical/dental procedure, the tooth is not a molar, and I think it will come out quite easliy and Lucas will be fine with nothing but novocaine, but if they insist, just nitrous, cause I think anesthesia would be ridicluous for something that will take minutes.
Then we go back in April for the cavities. The ped dentist said that his teeth are really crowded near the back and this is not uncommon for baby teeth and is not indicative of how his adult teeth will be, so I will be hoping for the best. Aside from wisdoms out, Larry and I have only had some fillings each here and there. I feel bad he has to go thru it, but he is fine with it cause Emma went thru this a year or so ago, so he figures if she can do it so can he : )

Good Updates
I need to remember to update when things are going good as well as crappy, like one of my previous posts.
Lucas and his behaviour, about school especially, has taken a turn for the better, we are leaving that crying phase as well.
The deal was, if he could go two weeks without crying when I drop him off at school or before care, or Jill and Matt's, he got a trip to Chuckie Cheeses. Needless to say, he won his trip and we went this past Sunday, yay : ) and he has not cried since, either. he was also exceptionally good on our most recent Bass Pro Shop trip with Norb and Barb.
His antics about GOING to school as well have turned around. We just had to really lay into him again and explain how he was expected to act, cause he KNOWS. He is allowed to not be happy that he has to go, but there is no arguing, whining, crying about it etc, because its the law, he has to go to school and since mom and dad do not want to go to work, we all have to do things we don't want to do, blah, blah. its working at this moment anyways.
We had our second parent-teacher conferecne a few weeks ago as well. No surprises, he is very good at school still. And it seems the things he was having small struggles with at the beginning, such as sitting still, paying attention and trying on all his work, has resolved itself. I see at home how much better and neater his work is and how he is really trying as opposed to scribbling it out if he does not feel like it. The teacher showed us some work from Dec and Jan and then the first few weeks of Feb, and even in those short weeks, how much better it has all gotten, his writing and coloring. She has no concerns about him at this time socially, behaviourally, or academically. that is always nice to hear : )
